Chapter 5 - Kithicor Forest

Lisika screamed in fright, running as fast as she could. Fippy was three steps ahead of her. “Ahhhhhhhhhhh! I'm never going through Kithicor Forest at night again!” Shouted Lisika.

“Shut up and run!” screamed Fippy as he avoided yet another undead trooper!

“Brains!” screeched the nearest zombie.

Huffing and puffing, Lisika looked up at the sky. The moon was almost settled into the horizon. It would be day soon. She pointed ahead and choked out between pants, “Head that way Fippy!”

“Brains!” said the nearest ghoul.

“Where!” shouted Fippy. “I can't see a thing! I'm not an elf you know.”

“Brains!” rattled the nearest skeleton.

“Shut UP!” shouted Fippy and Lisika.

“Sorry.” said the skeleton as he shuffled off dejectedly.

After much screaming, running and heavy breathing, Fippy and Lisika ended up in the common lands. Fippy tumbled over into the grass, his tongue hanging from his mouth. “Whew…” he gasped.

“No kidding!” wheezed Lisika. “I never thought we'd make it out of there. Thank goodness it was almost day.”

Simply nodding in agreement, the little gnoll collapsed into the grass. He curled up and yawned sleepily, shutting his eyes.

Lisika sat down heavily. Brushing the sweat from her eyes, she muttered, “Now that is interesting. Fippy get up.”

“Sleepy.” muttered the gnoll.

“Oh hush! Get up and just look at this a moment.” prodded the rogue.

Getting up wearily, Fippy turned around to look. He blinked, as though clearing his vision. “If I didn't know any better, I would say that is an army.”

“That's just it Fippy. It is an army. The army of King Tearis Thex to be exact. I would know those banners anywhere.” remarked Lisika. “Should we go check it out?”

Grumbling softly, Fippy rolled back over, “In a few hours. Let's sleep before the sun gets to high.”

Nodding in agreement, Lisika laid down beside the gnoll and quickly fell asleep, unaware of how tired she actually was.

By late afternoon, Lisika was awake. She turned and smiled as she found her companion sound asleep and as cute as ever. Covering him with a cloak and some leaves, the rogue stood up and marched towards the camp. As she approached, a sentry held up his hand and shouted, “Halt, who goes there and what business do you have here?”

“I am Lisika the scout, sister to Ferrel Shadowfury. Who leads this camp?” she called in reply.

“The Templar Ferrel. If you are truly her sister, I imagine she would want to see you. Why don't you come with me?” the guard suggested.

Lisika nodded and allowed herself to be escorted through the camp. In the center of the camp stood a large, open-air canopy. The sentry stopped just outside its parameter and whispered, “This is the command area. The Templar is over there.” He pointed to a purple clad high elf that had her back to them. “She doesn't look to busy now.”

The rogue smiled and nodded in thanks to the guard. Walking slowly into the tent, she started to wonder if this was her Ferrel. The Ferrel she knew wore a full suit of golden armor, the most powerful armor a cleric could achieve. “Ferrel?” she asked.

The purple clad cleric turned around and smiled brightly, “Lisika! By Tunare! How did you get here?” she squealed as she hugged her little sister tightly.

“I'll tell you all about it sis, but I think you have much more explaining to do. I mean, new armor, a new title and the army of Tearis Thex?” stated Lisika.

Ferrel giggled softly and agreed, “Fair enough, I…” Just as she was going to finish, a scrawny wizard ran by with a few sentries in pursuit. He shouted at the top of his lungs, “Stop the madness! Blue butts are wonderful! Mean dark elves just need a hug! Ahhhhhhhhhh, Peachis save me!”

Lisika blinked in confusion. “Who or what was that?”

Ferrel shrugged and chuckled. “That is just one of our wizards. He doesn't believe in killing the dark elves. He is only here because Tearis Thex is hoping he gets himself killed.”

“Why would he hope that?” said Lisika with a frown.

Giggling shamelessly, Ferrel teased, “He was with Fironia Vie.”

Lisika just shook her head and remarked, as they walked away towards Ferrel's tent. “No way!”

Across the common lands, Fippy woke up. He smiled as he found himself wrapped in Lisika's cloak. “Off to see your elf friends I guess.” He said to himself. “I'll just wait here. I doubt they would like me.”
