The gnolls of the Snowfang tribe are relatively peaceful, content in the frozen wastes of Velious. Primarily hunters and fishers, they pray to Tarew Marr for guidance and bountiful waters.
Snowfang shamans tell of an earlier time when their territory encompassed all of the icy fingers and much of the eastern coastal lands of Velious. Then a long and exceptionally cold winter dried up the food supply of the tribe and many fell sick and died, weakened by the cold and starvation. Near the end of this "Time of Vengeful Winter", many of the Snowfang sailed north to settle the warmer lands of Antonica.
Other tales tell of a storm giant noble who was slain by Groumshak, a great Snowfang hunter, and how, as an act of revenge, the giants invoked the powers of their god to inflict severe winter upon the gnolls. Another version of the tale says that Groumshak had rescued a Coldain from the lure of a siren by slaying the wicked aquatic enchantress on the same hunt on which he had encountered the storm giant noble. It is told in this version that the giants' god of war, Rallos Zek, manipulated the goddess Ec'i into being outraged for the slaying of her siren worshiper and that it was she who brought the Vengeful Winter upon the Snowfangs.
Don't be fooled by the peaceful nature of the Snowfang. Annoy them or upset their villages, and they will turn as ferocious as the other breeds of gnolls that we are all familiar with!
