Ever washed your iPhone?
July 12th, 2011I did. It went through a full wash cycle in the machine when I forgot to remove it from my pocket. Arg! And only a few months away from me buying the new iPhone 4S - I didn’t want to have to buy the existing (older) model. So I carefully dried it out and turned it on. The screen was waterlogged and it showed the need for a battery charge for a few seconds before going dead. For the next couple of hours it proceeded to get so warm that I seriously placed it in the middle of the tile floor, expecting it to burst into flames. I was sure the insides were all short-circuiting. When it finally dried out and got cool, I charged it.
To my surprise, it worked! Sort of. The screen was washed out and covered with water patterns, and only some of the apps worked. The phone mic didn’t work and I could only have a phone call over speaker phone. Arg! As time went on, it began to work better: the mic started working, the headset speaker worked and a couple of weeks later, all evidence of the waterlogged screen has gone.
This is a testament to either: enormous luck or incredible build quality. It lives to (hopefully) last until I upgrade to the 4S.
