Yesterday we got back from a wonderful week on the Yucatan peninsular, on the gulf coast of Mexico. We purposely left it late in the year, knowing that summer months are both very crowded with beach-goers, and the weather very hot and sticky. It being hurricane season, we spent a lot of time monitoring the […]
Take a look at this teaser video of Spaceship Two, presumably put together by or on behalf of Virgin Galactic. That looks like incredible fun and maybe closest that I might get to orbit in my lifetime, unless we accelerate our manned spaceflight projects. Not sure why you need those whacky helmets though.
Cynic that I […]
This last weekend we spent the day north of LA at the famous Griffith Observatory, reportedly the most visited observatory in the world. The original building was built in the 1930’s, for public use, on land gifted by Colonel Griffith J. Griffith. Recently the city totally renovated it and constructed a host of new exhibits […]
Yesterday we got back after a fantastic week on Grand Bahama island. View some photos. It was very hot and humid and we were grateful for the daily thunderstorms and rain. We look like cooked lobsters now after being in the sun.
Apart from lounging around on beaches and in the pool at our resort, we […]
For our 2nd wedding anniversary we spent the weekend up at Big Bear lake. Just getting there was an adventure. On the Friday it started snowing up on the mountain and the status of the two roads up the mountain changed to snow chains required. There being no need for snow chains in San Diego, […]
I recently returned from a wonderful trip to blighty to visit my family. Whilst I was there, we spent a couple of days at the brand new Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth which is a work of art as much as a building. We also went to the historic Portsmouth naval dockyard and toured the famous […]
A couple of weeks ago we headed north to Canada for a week on Vancouver Island and Victoria. Surprisingly we arrived in their hottest week for decades. Instead of their usual rain, it was a sunny and scorching 32C. We had a great time and you can see a selection of our photos here.
One thing I’ve always wanted to do is sail around the world. Yeah pretty cliched, but think of all the places I’d see. Just for the fun of it I planned a route. Naturally it runs primarily through the tropics, mostly because it is warmer and sailing is more fun in tropical climates, but also […]

As an experiment, I’ve also put up a 2-minute video of our flight over the active Pu’u O’u Vent. View it from the Hawai’i photos page.
