Writers must embrace social media
I have read considerable material recently, on other writer/agent blogs, that recommends that a budding author establishes his or her social media presence even before they get published. I had intended to do this after I receive acceptance of a manuscript (hopefully my current one!). Apparently agents/publishers that I submit to are very likely to google me and research me as they consider my manuscript. It makes sense that they are looking for authors that are serious about the business of writing and intending to pursue it, rather than the person who just wants to see their name in print once. (Not that I’m saying there is anything wrong with that).
So, over the next few weeks I am going to put together my “official” site, separate from this one, which will be housed on www.graemeing.com. There I can maintain a bio, blurb about my books and hopefully an interesting blog. I’ll also be creating a Facebook, Google+ and Twitter presence. I’ll post more about these when it becomes reality.
I am over two-thirds of the way through my final (hopefully!) draft of my current novel. My wonderful readers all seem to have a positive response to it. Thank you all of you, I hope to acknowledge you all in the book. If I can be done by the end of the year, I am ready for the San Diego Writer’s Conference in January, a great place to network with agents.
