Egypt: Kom Ombo

Heading north, back to Luxor, we docked at Kom Ombu. Here a Ptolemaic temple dedicated to the God Sobek, stands right on the banks of the River. The highlights of this temple were a rare carving depicting Cleopatra, and an intact Nileometer. This is a device that routes water from the river into a well into which steps descend. Regular readings of the level of the Nile can be used to predict harvest and flood times.
