Egypt: Luxor Temple

Immediately after Karnak, we visited Luxor Temple, and immediately noticed the similarities between these Middle Kingdom temples: The halls of colonnades, pylons (stone gates) and obelisks. Luxor Temple has very much influenced by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, and there were some fascinating statues to look at, many of them headless, since latter pharaohs liked to vandalize the statues of those before them.

After Luxor Temple, our ship, the m/s Royale, undocked and started up the River Nile. We returned to Luxor a week later, and took a carriage ride which proved to be a fascinating and personal look at the old city, where we saw bazaars and spice shops and men sat around hookah bars. These places are where the locals go - no tourist souvenirs here.
