Modelling the Sultana

The Sultana was a schooner built in 1768 in the north-east of America.

As my maiden build in my new hobby of wooden shipbuilding I decided to start off with a popular kit from "Model Shipways". I really wanted a challenge that was as far removed from computers as possible. If you're thinking of those plastic kits from Revell and Airfix that you used to make with your Dad as a child, then, as you will see if you follow my photo journal; wooden ship-modelling is nothing like you imagine. :) Most of the wood has to be cut and shaped and very little comes ready to glue together.

Alas the original Sultana is no longer sailing, but an excellent replica sails the Chesapeake today.
